God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is a traditional English Christmas Carol that dates back to the 16th century or earlier and is known by a variety of names, mostly variants of God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen, and also by it’s chorus line Tidings Of Comfort And Joy. It celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ and bids the listener to rest merry, to remain happy and prosperous, and enjoy the tidings of comfort and joy. This is an unusual rendition of the song, starting as a fairly typical a cappella version but then it ups the energy and jumps into an instrumental section in The Native Howl‘s usual thrash grass style, with a few other well known Christmas tunes added for good measure, before ending with a full on vocal and band version that only The Native Howl could manage.
