Polovinka Moya [My Other Half] was originally released by Larisa Dolina on her 1988 album Kartochniy Domik [House of Cards]. It is about the old myth that, in the past, people thought they were the equals of Gods so, as punishment, the Gods split people in half, scattering them all over the Earth and condemning them to search for their other half and about the search for the other half. This is a solo performance given by Sonia Philippova at the New Wave Junior 2018 competition on the second day of competition. Sonia gives an excellent performance of the song with a lot more energy than the original, clearly delighting most of the judges and really working the audience with the most exciting performance of the competition and ending with a beautiful high note. Incidentally, the judge that provides feedback to Sonia after her performance is Larisa Dolina, the original performer of the song.
If you are wondering why they refer to her as Sofia in the clip and she is here referred to as Sonia, it is because in Russian her name is Софья [Sof’ya] but in English she prefers to be called Sonia because most English speakers don’t pronounce her name correctly and Sonia is much closer.
