NOTE: I don’t normally include covers by children of songs dealing with adult issues like those covered in this song but this performance is so exceptional and it has been handled in a manner that allays some of my concerns so that I am including it.
Daneliya Tuleshova is a young Kazakhstani singer and dancer. She has entered many competitions in Kazakhstan and abroad, most notably winning the Ayalagan Astana 2015 in Kazakhstan, she represented Kazakhstan at the 2015 New Wave Junior competition in Russia where she won the People's Choice Award, and she represented Kazakhstan at the 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) with her song Ózińe Sen [Seize The Time] making her the first person to represent Kazakhstan at any Eurovision contest.
Love on the Brain was originally released by Rihanna on her 2016 album Anti and as a single. It is a love song about a disfunctional relationship where the singer is being abused but is still committed to the relationship. Daneliya gives an incredibly intense performance of this song that drains you emotionally so that you need a short pause after the song is over to recover and recenter yourself. The simpler accompaniment to this version, the absence of backing vocals, and Daneliya‘s ability to express experiences well beyond her short years combine to give this performance an emotional authenticity that goes beyond that of the original.
WARNING: This song contains descriptions of domestic violence and is not usually considered suitable for children.
