The Clash were a British punk band that incorporated other styles of music, most notably ska and reggae, into their music. They were also known for the left-wing political influence to their lyrics. They were active during the late 1970's and 1980's. The main line-up of the band was Joe Strummer on lead vocals, guitar and piano; Mick Jones on vocals and guitar; Paul Simonon on vocals and bass; and Topper Headon on drums.
Bankrobber was The Clash’s 14th single and includes Jamaican singer and producer Mikey Dread on backing vocals. It is the story of the singer’s father who “was a bankrobber, but he never hurt nobody, he just liked to live that way, and he loved to steal your money.” The message of the song is that you should break the rules rather than buckle under because “there’s no point to wanna comb your hair, when it’s grey and thinning.”
